Visit To Carvajal Base – aka Adelaide – 2001 – Jenny Dean

The trip was with Dave Routledge by skidoo and we spent about 5 or 6 days there. Just exploring and hanging out at the base really. We couldn’t do much in the area because  although we had planned to stay there briefly and go camp and climb hills nearby, the ramp leading up from the base was extremely icy making it difficult to come and go.

Fur Seals – unknown from 1961 to 1975

Definitely no Fur Seals reported up to the base closing in 1977.  None seen at sea off the Peninsula as far as I can recall.  South Georgia was only just recovering numbers in 1974 when I left there so there would be no pressure on them to venture much further south. When we went back to MB in 2005, the launch could not land the raiding party at T for huge numbers of Furries patrolling the High Street and jetty! – Dog Holden

Maybe 17 years worth of Gash and Honey Buckets being returned to nature off the jetty had something to do with improving the lives of the Furry population. – Editor

It just keeps going and going….
